Motu 828 Drivers For Mac

The interface is the mk 1, and I do have the drivers installed and were working for a short time. I have updated to 10.10.5 and tried the connection and boot up process a few times with no avail, and I also reset the interface as recommended.

I am thinking it is a driver issue, as the drivers don't open when I start up the Mac (which they had done when it was functioning) with interface on and connected. I am going to try re-installing the drivers to see if there was a software issue.

To use 64-bit applications, plug-ins, or device drivers on Mac OS X, an Intel-based Mac with a 64-bit processor running Mac OS X v10.6 or later is required. (To see if your Mac has a 64-bit processor, please refer to the Apple support document, "How to tell if your Intel-based Mac has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor.")

When using the 64-bit kernel in Mac OS X v10.6 and later, 64-bit hardware drivers must be used. MOTU FireWire/USB2 audio interfaces, PCI-424 audio interfaces, and USB MIDI interfaces can be used with the 32- or 64-bit kernel. The minimum driver versions required for use with the 64-bit kernel are:

Firewire is still fully supported and widely used professionally. As long as the manufacturer offers support and drivers, using a Thunderbolt port (which includes the USB-C ports in Pro Macs) with a Thunderbolt to Firewire dongle will perform just as good, if not better than a built-in Firewite port in an older Mac.

I am new here and new to the imac. I am trying to set up my MOTU 828 mk3 firewire drivers and settings so that i can use my powered mackie monitors for audio and not the internal speakers. My mackies are tied directly to the outputs of the mk3, and in the past i just used the mk3's mains volume knob to adjust the stereo out lvls. The problem is, I have no control over the audio now and its LOUD! I have the main outs set up as the outputs under system prefs/sound, and I have the Master down all the way on the mk3, yet when i say click on mail, or try to use garage band i have no control over the volume. and its loud... It could very well be my settings- but I did read that MOTU was having issues with their drivers and to use the ver 1.4, and not the version1.5?

Linux kernel drivers are provided through the ffado project, which exists for Firewire audio. The www says that a nice individual has reverse engineered a MOTU Traveler product, which contains similar chips as all other MOTU firewire products. The company, in this case Mark Of The Unicorn explicitly informed him they have zero interest in Linux drivers, so his work was 100% reverse engineered. Much of the online documentation around tests with this driver and various hardware is offline or a broken link. The wayback machine has some vague references that indicate partial success. Probably best to dual boot before committing to Linux.
